Oral Surgery - Wisdom teeth extraction

You've heard me mention about this 976456789 times on my blog, my FB & twitter status; you've
heard me complaining about the pain and the torturous experience of not eating solid food in 336 hours; you have also comforted me by generously sending caring messages and raising the 2000-daily-hit (hit harder) questions: 1) What oral surgery did you undergo? and 2) Why do you need an oral surgery?

It's all began in 2008 after my 2nd visit at the dentist office in Portland. My dentist suggested, advised and tried her very best to persuade me to undergo a bottom wisdom teeth extraction because they were pushing and leaning on my other teeth and directly causes an overbite jaw structure change. The whole surgery will take approximately 2 hours and the dentist is going to put me into sleep. But I was too scared to do that that time no matter how persuasive the dentist & Chean were, so I refused.

I thought perhaps I could just let them sit inside the gum as long as they are not causing any pain & discomfort, but I was so wrong. They have caused severe damages on my jaw line and worsen the overbite condition without informing me in advance. Until this March, I keep biting myself while enjoying food and I hear the "click" sound every time I munch and wide open my mouth.

Let me show you how.

See how they were squeezing for places?

So I decided I can't drag this any longer although I've almost used to "click" sound and overbite. And I talked and discussed with my oral surgeon (this time is a male) in Boulder and here's what he will do:

He will first cut my wisdom teeth into 2 pieces and gently remove them for the socket. In order to avoid the empty sockets to be filled with soft tissues that won't give the gum the full support as I grow older in time, he will harvest a small amount of bone from my jaw and fill the empty sockets with B.O.N.E. As usual, he'll put his patient into sleep for this type of bottom teeth extraction and the surgery will take around 2 hours.

Again, I was scared but I really can't drag this any longer. Gonna man up and get it over with.

Chean was taking a day off to be with me. Taken this while on the way to the oral surgeon office.

Except to sign at least 5 pages paperwork of disclaimer before any surgery in the U.S.

Hated this...

Because I was poked 3 times for the IV sedation @.@

The surgery went well, let's see the end result now...

Wisdom teeth had gone and a tiny amount of jaw bone had been used to fill the empty sockets.

My face was severely swollen and bruised.

The recovering process was a hell itself. Not to mention that I can't nom, munch or eat, I can't even talk too.

Was on liquid diet for 2 weeks.

But thanks to the surgery, I've unintentionally shook away 5 pounds in just 2 weeks. Look at my sharper jaw line and smaller face, it's all worth it!!! (these unretouched pics were taken solely by iPhone)

And lastly, allow me to let you in the whole secretive plan...

I've been planning for braces all these while to correct my bite and the shifted jaw structure. Yup, it's either metal or porcelain braces or Invasalign. However, I'm not sure when will I actually do it as I haven't figure out my 2011 annual plan yet. You know me, I love to plan things ahead and I love how things work according to plan.

And I even expect many of you are now thinking about getting braces or Invasalign too! Plan ahead and start saving! It's going to cost me around US$ 5k and I've been saving since 2009, but I'm sure it'll the best investment that will promise a lifetime of happiness, at least with a pretty smile ❤❤

Happy & satisfied with the awesome work done by my awesome surgeon,
Bev
